Where to just sit and rest all over Manhattan?

We%26#39;re going to be tourists in New York for four days. We%26#39;re staying in Brooklyn so won%26#39;t be zipping back to any hotel for freshening up. This will mean many, many hours in Manhattan, like a couple of 12-hour days (or longer). Due to health reasons, it%26#39;s sounding like I%26#39;m going to be looking for places to close my eyes for a few minutes, but I can%26#39;t imagine where one would do that in Manhattan. I mean, I don%26#39;t fall asleep in restaurants, and park benches are not the best for relaxing on even when sitting - no head rest. So what does a weary traveler do for a quick 10 winks, even seated, in Manhattan?

If you are near Grand Central Station, you can go sit inside for a little while---we%26#39;ve done that before. Also, you could do that in Penn Station but, IMO, Grand Central Station is a far nicer place to sit a while. Posters have previously mentioned that in the ESB, there is a place--for a price--where you can take a 20-minute nap. Hopefully, someone else will have more info on that.

well,I don%26#39;t know about actually getting ';10 winks';..but I have gone up to the Ladies lounge in Lord %26amp; Taylor(even when I lived in the City),which is clean, and has some seating, for a restroom stop...you could try one of the museums..

Grab a comfy seat or sofa in one of the many hotel lobbies!

Yelo is a %26#39;nap salon%26#39; where you can take 20-to-40-minute naps for $15-28. It%26#39;s on 57th Street between 8th and 9th avenues. http://www.yelonyc.com/powernaps-menu.cfm

MetroNaps are the guys in the ESB, but according to their Web site they no longer offer public services.

When my kids were little, we would ride the train around and around Disney World so that they could get a rest. For $2 maybe you could take a ride back and forth on the subway for a rest! Even if there%26#39;s not a seat when you first get on, one should open up soon!

Ditto to a hotel lobby. You could order lemonade, a martini,

or coffee at most.

Bryant Park on a nice day is a great place to relax.

Of course, anywhere in Central Park is a great option, but in particular, Sheep Meadow, the Great Lawn, and Cedar Hill are great for lying down and enjoying some peace.

Enjoy your trip, and Go Orange!

I think you need to purchase one of those pillows that wraps around your neck- you%26#39;re not going to find anywhere in the city that offers head rests for sleeping throughout the day unless you%26#39;re visiting one of the aforementioned sleep pod places.

You folks are great! Fabulous ideas! I%26#39;ll take more, if there are any, especially for Chinatown and Chelsea areas. But really, any other ideas will be most welcome.

It is somewhat difficult to find a quiet place to chill in Chinatown. However, the adjacent neighborhood is Foley Square/City Hall. City Hall is quite close by and has a beautiful park with a wonderful fountain. Although you may think that it%26#39;s a bit strange, many NYC workers enjoy a lunch break or some down time in the churchyard/cemetary of St. Johns Church on Broadway, just south of City Hall.
