best Bbq in NYC

cheers crans,

I havr been to NYC twenty times plus so as much as I don%26#39;t want to be I am still a tourist. Is virgils still just a tourist trap in ypur opinion. I have been to blue smoke but I just was afternoon drinking

cheers

Yes, Virgil%26#39;s has become a touristy place and the quality has declined, IMHO. Last time I was there (around February) with a large group, much of our food was dried out.

sprewell20 - You%26#39;ve been here more than 20 times and you%26#39;ve gone only to Virgil%26#39;s for bbq? Dude, you gotta branch out!

I agree the Virgil%26#39;s is primarily a tourist spot, though if you%26#39;re in Times Square it%26#39;s a better choice than, say, TGI Friday%26#39;s. You should definitely try to fit in Hill Country or RUB or Blue Smoke on trip #21.

Best BBQ in NYC .... ah ..... apparently .... from the looks of things ..... it%26#39;s in my back yard.

you know Lotus, unless you plan to invite us over, you have to stop tempting us with your menu, your backyard, your bbq, your wife, your sister..... I%26#39;m hungry!

I know i should branch out, we have actually started to eat at the bar when we go and jsut get drinks and the BBQ wings. We got engaged there and will be back on Nov 2nd after we hopefully complete the marathon. But I will try out what has been suggested. cheers

Virgil%26#39;s is not terrible, but it is far from the best.

Virgil%26#39;s is ';legitimate'; in that it meets the minimum definition of real barbecue: meat that is slow cooked using an indirect heat source (ideally hardwood, but there is some wiggle room on this).

This method is not really conducive to cooking chicken wings. And while barbecue sauce is delicious, simply covering poultry with it doesn%26#39;t make it ';BBQ';, anymore than wings with ';Jamaican Jerk Sauce'; come from Montego Bay.

So Sprewell20, if y%26#39;all enjoy Virgil%26#39;s go for it. But to put it in terms you may appreciate: that%26#39;s kind of like saying the LA Galaxy is just as good Celtic or Rangers...

What evening said.

I liked Virgil%26#39;s, but honestly I%26#39;ve had WAY better BBQ. Virgil%26#39;s was good for a large party dining experience. I don%26#39;t know why, but BBQ is not big on my list for things to eat while in NYC.

Sprewell......you got engaged at Virgil%26#39;s? That%26#39;s interesting. :o)
