Our first trip to NY. advice of where to stay

We are going to NY in May of 2009. My husband, Myself and our 22 year old daughter. She wants to stay in Time Square. We know it is expensive to get a hotel in NY. We want to stay some place really nice. We have looked at alot of hotels but can%26#39;t seem to pick one. We are use to staying in Condo%26#39;s due to we have a timeshare.

Well, you won%26#39;t be staying in an apartment here. There are laws to prevent that.

What is your budget?

I figure we will have to pay 400.00 a night to get something nice...

Staying in Times Square is pretty controversial. It%26#39;s busy 24/7 and not all it%26#39;s cracked up to be. That said, many visitors like it. The Doubletree Guest Suites and AKA suites Times Square have suites that are like an apartment and are in that area. The London Hotel and the Blakely are just north of Times Square but less hectic area and both of those have 1 bedroom suites for some extra space (but the London suites don%26#39;t have kitchens).

hotels are all suites, in midtown but not Times Square and again have rooms/suites like apartments.

I%26#39;m a fan of the Travel Inn. It%26#39;s 42nd and 10th I believe, about 2 (long) blocks west of Times Square. My mom%26#39;s not a huge fan of walking and she%26#39;s makes it to Times Square no prob. When I%26#39;ve stayed with friends we walked from there to: Times Square, Rockefeller Center, Bloomies, Central Park, and the shops on the east side. The hotel staff are very nice and the rooms are a regular size, not tiny, and they%26#39;re clean. My only complaint is when we first went after 9/11 we only paid $100/night, now it%26#39;s closer to $300.
