Looking for a restaurant near the Waldorf Astoria

Hi - I%26#39;ll be in the City in October and am looking for a nice restaurant near the Waldor Astoria. Anything in the Italian, American/Steakhouse or Seafood genres would be great. Also looking for a tip on a fun Irish pub. It%26#39;s a special weekend.

Thanks in advance!!

How near are we talking? Walking distance? Hard to say without a budget per person but close are the Double Eagle Steak house, Le Cirque-French, and Gilt-American/French. You can search by area on open table as there are many more within walking distance.

I%26#39;ll give you some options, but it%26#39;s really easy to get around by taxi, subway or bus so it%26#39;s not really necessary to limit yourself to being near the hotel. Depending on your age, your budget and your tastes, you might prefer another neighborhood that%26#39;s less corporate and a bit more relaxed. Remember the Waldorf is in a high rent business district of midtown and the best restaurants tend to be pricey and more formal.

For steak, BLT steak and Bobby Van%26#39;s (2 nearby locations) are both good. Padre Figlio is a new Italian steakhouse I haven%26#39;t tried that%26#39;s getting very good reviews on menupages. It would be about a 10 minute walk from the hotel.

For seafood if you want a splurge, go to Le Bernardin (very upscale French seafood). It%26#39;s prob. the best seafood in NYC and again about a 10-15 min. walk.

I think others will have recos for Irish pub.

- Il Nido, 251 E. 53rd St. (bet. 2nd %26amp; 3rd Aves.)

Here are a few options:

- BLT Steak, 106 E. 57th St. (bet. Lexington %26amp; Park Aves.)

- Rothamann%26#39;s Steakhouse, 3 E. 54th St. (bet. 5th %26amp; Madison Aves.)

- Gilt, NY Palace Hotel|455 Madison Ave. (bet. 50th %26amp; 51st Sts.) (new American)

- Grifone, 244 E. 46th St. (bet. 2nd %26amp; 3rd Aves.) (No. Italian)

- Oceana, 55 E. 54th St. (bet. Madison %26amp; Park Aves.)

- Pampano, 209 E. 49th St. (bet. 2nd %26amp; 3rd Aves.) (Mexican %26amp; Seafood)

You might also look into Peacock Alley and Bull and Bear in the Waldorf itself.

You are in a good area for food :)

It is hard to advise since you didn%26#39;t provide a budget nor how far you are willing to walk/cab/subway.

Have you checked OpenTable.com? You can search for your desired dates, area (Waldorf is in Midtown East) your party size and even the cuisine.

After you%26#39;ve seen all the avaiabilities, you can then check Yelp.com for reviews on the restaurant.

I can share a bit more - we%26#39;re in our early 30%26#39;s and are looking to keep the bill between $150-$200 if possible. It%26#39;s a special b-day weekend. We%26#39;re staying at the Waldorf but are willing to walk (10 mins. or so) or cab it, as we%26#39;ve done that before.

I%26#39;m going to check out the dining options you%26#39;ve all been so kind to already suggest. A friend mentioned Oceana, Trattori del Arte and Scarpetta to me and the concierge at the Waldorf mentioned Cellini%26#39;s. i don%26#39;t really know much about any of them but Oceana and Cellini look pretty good via their sites.

I%26#39;ve been on menu pages a bit, too. Thanks again for the suggestions. I plan to check back later!!!

I work next to Oceana and Cellini. Cellini is OK, but not special. Fresco is also nearby and better. Alto is even better (53rd just east of Madison).

Oceana recently had a chef change, and I dont know if it impacted the quality, but its known as a top seafood place. Killer expensive - I%26#39;d only go there with client who spends a lot of money.

Tao is a fun scene, but Asian, which wasnt on your list. The top places in the neighborhood are probably Atelier de Joel Robuchon in the Four Seasons, Adour (Ducasse) in the St Regis, and Grayz on West 54th. Town in the Chambers Hotel on 55th (or is it 56th?) is also excellent. And, then there%26#39;s the Modern in the Museum of Modern Art (or the Bar, which is less expensive)

Oceana is great seafood, but I prefer Le Bernardin in that stratosphere of resto and it%26#39;s not that much further. Scarpetta is ';the'; Italian of the moment in the meatpacking district. There%26#39;s a conversation about Italian restaurants going on right now here

Alto which is near the hotel used to be his restaurant but he left and has now opened Scarpetta.

I think Cellini is kinda old fashioned for 30 year olds.
