In a fortnights time my wife and I are flying to NYC for a weeks stay before jetting off to Vegas for another week.
During our stay in NYC, we will be located at the Quality Inn LIC.
Basically, I would like to know out of the two methods below, which would the cheaper option? also, quicker option (leaving at 7.30 in the morning)
1) Cab (not sure how much) or call a car that charges flat rate... think it%26#39;s something in the region of $50 (not sure on tax, tips etc)
2) Now the second option I%26#39;m not too sure if the route/prices I have are correct, so please feel free to correct me where need be.
a)Cab to Penn Station from hotel ($15)
b) NJ transit to EWR $30 (2 of us)
c) AirTrain to terminal C ($28)
(How long would this how journey take roughly at 7.30)
Have I got it right? Is there possibly another route to Newark that might be easier or cheaper.
Please bear in mind that we will have a medium sized suitcase each and hand luggage, so am not sure how convenient it is lugging it around and down flights of stairs in Penn Station.
Any advice is very much appreciated.
Thanks.
Can someone check my route to Newark Airport please
The taxi will be significantly more expensive. I would think it would be at least $60.00 - $100.00 USD.
The train will be less expensive (the Newark Airport ';AirTrain'; is free).
I know the new Quality Inn, nice location on the [N] and [W] subway line (39th Avenue station).
Hop on the Manhattan bound [N] / [W] to 34th Street in Manhattan. You%26#39;ll have an easy one block walk (it is an avenue block so it is a slight longer block than a street block) down to Penn Station. You can walk down 32nd, 33rd, or 34th Street right into Penn Station.
Purchase your NJ Transit tickets to Newark Airport at Penn Station, they%26#39;re $15.00 each, this includes the AirTrain (hold on to your tickets, you%26#39;ll need them to board the Air Train)
Schedules are available at njtransit.com
Allow an additional 15 minutes from the time NJTransit says as it%26#39;ll take a few minutes on the Air Train to get to Terminal C.
Easy. Inexpensive. Safe. Convenient. Hassle-free. No traffic. Spend the $50.00++ you save on a nice dinner in Las Vegas, it is a great city.
Can someone check my route to Newark Airport please
Taxi%26#39;s are not as readily available in LIC as they are in Manhattan, why not get in touch with a local car service in LIC %26amp; see how much it will be to take you directly to Newark Airport, it seems like it will be less expensive %26amp; less transfering.
Cheers for your reply FF, and the tip for holding onto the NJ Transit tkts for free AirTrain ride.
I read somehwere that it was $14 a pop.
Anyways, would I have any trouble carrying my suitcases from the entrance of the Subaway stns down to the actual platforms?
Because I know if I were on the London Underground it%26#39;d be a bloody nightmare because some stations here have a flight of stars and then an escalator or two. So much hassle.
That%26#39;s why I thought to just get a cab to Penn stn.
I guarantee a car service will not be less expensive. Two people to Newark Airport on the subway to the NJ Transit train will cost $34.00 total. If you can find a car that will take you from Queens to Newark Airport for less than $70.00 with tolls (yes, $7.00 tunnel toll), fuel surcharge and tip (yes, he%26#39;ll expect at least 10% - 15% added on for tip), I%26#39;d be surprised.
I like the train, it is very easy.
Hi Bill. Yeah I assumed that there%26#39;ll be less cabbies cruising LIC (posted another thread for numbers)
Could you (or anyone) suggest any phone numbers for cars in LIC area?
The 39th Street station is elevated so you%26#39;re actually going up the stairs and it isn%26#39;t that busy a station, you won%26#39;t have any difficulty. You won%26#39;t have many people going in the opposite direction and you won%26#39;t be blocking anybody.
The 34th Street station has plenty of entrances and exits. It is designed for Macy%26#39;s and Penn Station. It%26#39;ll be busy but it won%26#39;t be bad.
The Air Train / NJ Transit combination used to be $14.00. It is $15.00 now but includes everything from Manhattan to your terminal.
I take the NJ Transit train to Newark Airport with a large roller garment bag, a second bag and a backpack with my laptop. I%26#39;ve never had a problem.
The problem is that 7:30 is rush hour; traffic going across the Queensborough Bridge will be slow. The train will be fastest, but it will also be VERY crowded (you will find getting on the E train at Queens Plaza -- which is the best train to use to get from there to Penn Station; it also has somewhat fewer stairs down than the long stairway up to the N train at 39th Ave -- nearly impossible with suitcases, although you could do it easily enough if you do it by 7 AM.)
Try Dial 7 car service go to www.dial7.com or call 1-800-777-8888. It can%26#39;t hurt to ask for a rate. I would think it would be so much easier.
I agree that the E train would be a better option if you didn%26#39;t have any luggage at all. The E train is very crowded. I tend to find the N and W trains are not nearly as crowded as the E train. The 63rd Street Connection (for the F) and the new V train were all designed to ease congestion on the E train however it is still a nightmare at rush hour. The N and W are so frequent and make so few stops between Ditmars Blvd and Queensboro Plaza, I just don%26#39;t find it to be bad.
I have arrived at LaGuardia Airport a couple times at 7:15AM and taken a taxi to the N and W trains at Astoria Blvd (I was in too much of a hurry to wait for the M60, I had 8:00AM meetings). I went through 39th Avenue at 7:40AM or so. The trains were not nearly as crowded as the E or the 4, 5, 6 trains.
