Near Sunset Park

We will be visiting our son who has just moved to Sunset Park. We will be there in early September. I am trying to find a hotel relatively close to where he lives. He will be on the D line. It does not have to be terribly close, just a hotel that I can walk to a subway stop and then get to Manhattan and to his place. I am also trying to keep the costs down. And, of course, I want a safe, clean hotel.

Right now I have reservations at the Days Inn Brooklyn, but am very nervous about it. I have a request in at Park Hotel.

Does anyone have any suggestions? I would really like to stay under $200. a night.

Thank you so much.

Near Sunset Park

Park Slope is contiguous to Sunset Park, and both of these hotels will be just a short R train ride away. Note that both of these hotels are near 4th Avenue, an avenue that is in the midst of a development boom. Both are somewhat ahead of the curve. WHile the nabe is safe, it is not yet photogenic. However, right up the hill is Park Slope.

Hotel Blue: This hotel is situated on 4th Avenue and 6th street or so. It is modern and trendy. They have a web site for more info and photos. It%26#39;s somewhat expensive

Holiday Inn Express is on the lower end of things. I guess it%26#39;s what you%26#39;d expect at a Holiday Inn Express. Clean, reliable and somewhat dull. Once again, this section of Union Street is somewhat crappy, but is close to some great stuff.

Also, it doesn%26#39;t have fantastic notices, but the Best Western Gregory in Bay Ridge might be a cheaper option than the Park Slope Hotels. It is near the R line, which stops at the same station (36th Street and Fourth Avenue) as the D. You could probably get a deal on one of the travel sites to bring it in for less than $200 a night.

Bay Ridge is a very nice neighborhood that%26#39;s deeper into Brooklyn than Sunset Park. The R train (which is a local) gets you into Manhattan in approximately an hour. But I transfer to an express train (at 36th St.) every day, and make it in 35 minutes. The hotel is on Fourth Avenue, which is primarily residential, but both Third and Fifth Avenues are shopping districts with a lot of restaurants as well.

Typeface,

Thanks for your response here and on the NY forum. I have booked a room at the Best Western Gregory as a ';back up';. My son used to live in Bay Ridge and we really like that hotel. We have stayed there twice. So, it may be where we end up. I am also considering Le Jolie (on L line) which would involve going into Manhattan and back.....but they have a good price of $189. Since we would be spending a lot of time in Manhattan with our son, this may not be a ';bad'; idea.

I am still looking. Thanks for your help....and thanks to everyone else.

I wouldn%26#39;t stay on the L line since it involves a large amount of travel time between your hotel and your son%26#39;s apartment. It would be much easier to stay in Bay Ridge if you are low on funds.

I live in Park Slope %26amp; my parents came to visit me this spring. This neighborhood is gorgeous but it gets a little gross around 4th Ave where hotel le bleu and holiday inn express are located. Have you looked into Bed %26amp; Breakfasts? There are a ton around here - some really pricey and right off the park and some really basic but still nice.

My parents stayed in the latter. It was the whole ground floor of a brownstone right off of 4th street and 5th Ave (walking distance to the R and F at 9th Street %26amp; 5th Avenue - and I think the D and M make limited stops there as well). Anyway - it was super private and they had their own entrance and use of the backyard. 5th Ave is great too - tons of restaurants and shops within feet of the front door.

I think they paid $150 a night. Maybe $200 max? But totally worth it for your own apartment on a quiet residential street (those hotels on 4th Ave are surrounded by huge industrial buildings and car washes and taxi depos. ick).

Hope that helps!
