Only our 2nd time to NYC but tempted to stay in Brooklyn in Sept. What%26#39;s your advice?
Many thanks
Pros and cons to staying in Brooklyn
Brooklyn is huge-bigger than Manhattan. So it depends on WHERE in Brooklyn. Parts are close to Manhattan but other areas are not. There are very few hotels there and many are not near a subway. There are more b %26amp; b%26#39;s, some terrible, some ok and some very nice. So bottom line it depends on where (location), what (which place) and who you are. If the idea is to save money vs. a Manhattan location, there are also other options outside Manhattan within a train ride including some hotels in Jersey City and some in Long Island city.
Pros and cons to staying in Brooklyn
You are so relaible nywhiz, thanks!
Tempted by the NU hotel, great deals at the moment
The NU hotel is a New hotel so grand opening rates seem a good deal. Location is fine, near several subway lines so you can get around easily.
HI, thought that and certainly don%26#39;t want to be in Times Sq. Was wondering if any of you locals knew where it was, thanks!!
That location, at Smith Street and Atlantic Avenue, is great for exploring New York. You%26#39;re near a major subway hub and just a few stops from downtown Manhattan. You%26#39;re also close to Carroll Gardens, which has very good shops and restaurants; Park Slope, Brooklyn Heights and even Prospect Park. Great location.
I agree with everyone else--great location. And I recommend a very good, very old-school red sauce Italian restaurant called Queen that%26#39;s maybe a 2 minute walk from the hotel:

Many many thanks guy you%26#39;re great!! I%26#39;ve booked what I think is a bargain and can be cancelled, even better. We%26#39;ll just have to walk the bridge every day!! I%26#39;m saving all your ideas to take us and use when we%26#39;re there. Makes me feel guilty that I don%26#39;t go on the Edinburgh forum to help folk!!
Thanks crans, the restaurant looks amazing xx
I love Queen, but I would not call it a red-sauce retaurant; I definitely think of it as a white-tablecloth Italian restaurant.
Smith Street south of Atlantic these days is full of interesting restaurants of all kinds, and you will also find a number of Middle Eastern restaurants along that stretch of Atlantic.
What are your thoughts about going into Manhattan [say midtown] and then returning late afternoon before heading back into Manhattan [say Chelsea area] from this hotel...fairly easy? Thanks.
