Driving From Ithaca to Kingston

We will be staying in Ithaca NY for 2 nights.

On the next day we are driving to Kingston NY.

Can anyone suggest a scenic driving route between the two.

What is a must to see on route.

Also could you let us know the average driving distance and time.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Robert

Driving From Ithaca to Kingston

I don%26#39;t know the area at all, but I don%26#39;t know how much traffic this forum gets so I%26#39;ll guide you to

maps.google.com

for directions, driving distance and approx time.

Driving From Ithaca to Kingston

Rt 96A South to Rt 96 South into Owego. Pick up Rt 17 East and follow for aprox 100 miles. Get on Rt 209 North towards Ellenville and take into Kingston. We do the drive from Stone Ridge which is just a little south of Kingston. It%26#39;s a very, very pretty ride along Rt 17. There are lots of ways to get from Ithaca to Rt 17 but I think Rt 96A/96 is the prettiest. Not sure about anything that is a must see along the route; there%26#39;s not a lot there except really pretty country.

Driving time, going by the most direct route would be about 2 and a half hours but customs is the big variable. I would recommend taking the ferry from Cape Vincent across to Wolfe Island and then the ferry into Kingston. Cape Vincent is a picturesque little place and depending on the queues at customs, it could save a lot of time. Having said that, the 1000 islands crossing is pretty spectacular and is worth a visit too.

There are also some spectacular beaches south of Sackets Harbour if you wanted to stop on your way - I think the one I%26#39;ve been to is a State Park but I%26#39;ve forgotten the name.

The direct route is pretty scenic - just watch out going through Syracuse - we always took the highway through the centre rather than going round the ring road (traffic%26#39;s not a problem unless it%26#39;s rush hour) and you need your wits about you as there are lots of exits and entrances. We went that way %26#39;cos we usually pulled off at the Carousel Mall in Syracuse to do a bit of shopping on the way.

Hope that%26#39;s of some help!

Oops, sorry - I%26#39;ve just realised you%26#39;re NOT going to Kingston, ONTARIO! So, just ignore what I posted previously.
