Hi:
I am traveling from Massachusetts to Toronto in a couple of weeks and have to stop at a hotel around the Buffalo area. I want to stay close to the highway as possible (290 or 90). I am leaving at 3 in the afternoon, so I figured that gets me in the Buffalo area by 10:00-11:00. I noticed towns like Amherst and Whitinsville, but was not sure how far off the highway those hotels are. I am planning on getting up early to get to toronto, because I have tickets for the Saturday baseball game, so I want to make sure I am in a position to get there on time. I was advised that Buffalo was about an hour and a half away, so I figured that would be a good stopping point for me due to the late hour I will be arriving in the area. Can anyone give me some ideas on a decent hotel that I can stay at in that area that is not too expensive? (as in over $130 say)
Thank you so much for your help
Julie
Need Help for my trip
Julie, you might want to plan on a little more than an hour and a half to Toronto, given the traffic and delays at the border crossings during the summer. I%26#39;d suggest adding an hour, to be on the safe side.
Chck out the Lord Amherst hotel in Williamsville, which is right next to the ramp onto the 290:

Have fun!
Need Help for my trip
The hotels in Williamsville off the 290 on Millersport Hwy, like the Red Roof Inn, Mariott, etc are only about 2 minutes from the 290. South on Millersport Hwy about 5 min from the 290 at Sheridan Drive is a restaurant named ';Duffs'; which has GREAT Chicken wings!!!!!
Thank you both for giving me some great advice, especially the heads up on the extra travel time and I can%26#39;t wait to get my hands on some of those tasty sounding wings!I just booked the Red Roof Inn. I have now completed most of my trip with hotels in Toronto at the Intercontinental Inn (little nervous about), and at the Niagara Inn and Spa at Niagara Falls and now I just have to focus on finding some places to stay in the Finger Lake Region, so I can visit some fun wineries! If anyone has advice in that area I would be so excited to hear about it!
Thank you both again for replying with some great advice. That is why I book nothing until I check out tripadvisor first! Take care, Julie
It seems to me that Bath New York, at the South end of the Finger Lakes, is close to everything and has places to stay.
The Finger Lakes can be tricky for lodging this time of year. I would focus on the Watkins Glen area. You may want ot try the
http://www.watkinsglenharborhotel.com/. A new property that just opened a few weeks ago. If you do not mind something a bit rustic and nostalgic, the Seneca Lodge is excellent. Clean and inexpensive. A bit of the 70%26#39;s throw back but beloved by its regulars, myself included.
Roosterfish Brewing is a great dinner or lunch spot in town and a trip through the State park and gorge is a must. Wineries galore up and down both sides of Seneca lake. Check out Rasta Ranch or Poplar Ridge for unique alternative winery experience.
The Harbor Hotel looks WONDERFUL!! We will keep it in mind for a future weekend getaway!!!
