My daughter and I are planning our first trip to New York the last week in Sept and have no idea if these two hotels are located downtown or?? We would like to know if anyone would recommend either of these. Also are they close enough to all the major sites that we really want to see. Which airport is the closest and what are the price range of cab fares? Any help or other suggestions would really be appreciated. Our price range for hotels is the $300-400.

What sights do you want to see? You don%26#39;t say........
Jolly Hotel and Comfort Inn Midtown
Whoah! A few questions?
You can locate any hotel on
maps.google.com
by just putting the name of the hotel in the top and NYC. Both of these are in ';midtown'; the most popular place for first time visitors to stay. While they%26#39;re both ';fine'; I wouldn%26#39;t chose to spend $300 let alone $400 to stay in either, despite the fact that they%26#39;re probably charging that price. You%26#39;re coming at an expensive time and neither of those is really worth that imo.
If you%26#39;re coming from the 26th or after, the Residence Inn and several of the Courtyard Marriotts are $329/night plus tax. If you%26#39;re an AAA member it may be less. These are all relatively new and well located (not the Courtyard upper east side though).
Pick flights to whichever airport has best fares/flight times. LGA is closest but JFK and EWR are also fine. Cab fares from LGA are ~ $35-40, from JFK ~$60 and EWR ~$70.
Yes, I know there are alot of questions but we have never been there before. I%26#39;ve done quite a bit of searching but it is always better to get input from the local people or the ones who have been there. We want to see Time Square, Statute of Liberty, Ground Zero etc. Thanxx for the suggestions. I will check out the suggested hotels.
The sites you mention are really spread out. Anywhere in Manhattan would be fine for you to stay. Their public transportation system is great so no worries. You%26#39;ll be able to get to where you need to go. For reference though ......it is Time(s) Square and it is not Ground Zero. It%26#39;s The World Trade Center site. Just wanted to let you know as New Yorkers will not hesitate to point it out. You%26#39;ll find a lot of good information on this site by using the stickys at the top of the page and by using the search. The experts are great at answering researched questions too. :o) I hope you have a great trip!!!
I%26#39;m staying at the Comfort Inn Midtown in a few weeks. I chose it for price (I got an under $200 rate for my August dates), the fact that it is completely non-smoking, but mostly for location. I%26#39;m seeing a couple of plays and it will be an easy walk back, plus it%26#39;s close to a few different subway lines so I can get anywhere easily. It is newly renovated, includes breakfast, gets great reviews - I%26#39;m actually a little nervous because it sounds too good to be true!
Thanx for replies. Our price sure didn%26#39;t start out that high but when researching it, all summer prices were very reasonable. But by the middle of Sept they all seem to double
