Has anyone had success in getting this hotel for $300 or less in the summer months using priceline, kayak, etc? I have been watching a variety of sights for a few weeks without any luck. I have seen on the hotel website a $297 a night rate but it is not for enough nights. I am looking for 5-7 nights arriving anytime from August 15th to August 25th. Yes I know there are many other hotels to try in this wonderful city as well as the fact that many people don%26#39;t want to stay in Times Square. However, we have stayed there before and like everything about it and want to stay again. Thanks for any tips someone may have.
Marriott Marquis - deals on priceline, quikbook, etc
I was just wondering if you%26#39;ve tried calling the hotel directly (talk to a manager, if you can - tell him/her how special your previous stay was - etc..)
Sometimes (if you%26#39;re really really nice! LOL) they%26#39;ll give you a better rate than what%26#39;s out there on the net, if you%26#39;re a returning customer.
Certainly can%26#39;t hurt and sometimes it actually works!
Marriott Marquis - deals on priceline, quikbook, etc
Hi -
I DID get a GREAT deal on this hotel in mid-August, HOWEVER, I got it through the ';name-your-own-price'; option. You cannot choose a specific hotel through this option, just the star rating and ';area'; you%26#39;d like to stay in.....its a crap shoot as to 1) whether or not they accept your offer and 2) which hotel THEY pick for you IF they accept your offer.
This being said, when we come to NYC, we aren%26#39;t really picky as to what part of town we stay in or which hotel....we usually want the best quality room that fits our budget (which isn%26#39;t Donald Trumph%26#39;s!!). We love to stay in different hotels around the city so we can explore its many different and diverse areas. I%26#39;ve gotton several GREAT deals on hotels through priceline....I also look at sidestep.com which searches multiple travel sites.
You could call them up and asked the manager as previously stated....sometimes just asking does help!
For this particular trip, we specifically wanted to stay near Times Square as we are bringing our 12-year old niece and we know this will really appeal to her. I checked all the hotels in this category/area and all looked fine and got decent reviews here on TA.
If you MUST stay here, then I would suggest just sucking it up and booking a room at the lowest price you can find.....try different date combos as that may help. If you can be flexible....there are some great deals on great hotels out there! I use hotels.com a lot too! Research, research, research!!
I%26#39;ve rarely seen a Priceline win for the Marriott Marquis. There are 6 4* hotels in Times Square and the Millenium Broadway and the Westin are the more common wins. It%26#39;s also a challenge to get any PL win in NYC for 7 days.
Hotwire is often a predictor or Priceline availability. I see no 4* hotels in Times Square on Hotwire during that period (right now). This could obviously change. Since Millenium B%26#39;way seems to be $350 during that time, I%26#39;d say $297 is a bargain.
nywhiz is right.....it%26#39;s difficult to get 7 days from priceline at an unbeatable price. We%26#39;re only going for one night.....I never book more than 3 nights, and its usually Sun-Wed when its less full (generally speaking).
Also be aware that the hotel you win may NOT be one of those pictured on the site (yet still in the same category). $297 for a 4-star hotel with a central location in the peak of tourist season, I believe, is a good deal. Plus, you already know you like it, so there%26#39;s little to chance!
I tried Priceline for a few weeks trying to get 7 days straight for my next trip but couldn%26#39;t get anything for my budget. It was too risky to split the bidding on Priceline as I could have ended up with different hotels.
As it was I managed to get 7 days at Intercontinental The Barclay through doing 2 bookings on Hotwire, one for 3 days, the other for 4. It was a calculated risk it was the same hotel, but the amenities on offer matched.
I%26#39;ve always been happy with the outcome with Priceline....but you do kind of feel like it%26#39;s a crap shoot!! Keep in mind though....Priceline only guarantees ONE bed.....so if you need two, I%26#39;m not sure I would risk it!!
Hotwire can be used for up to 4 people per room.
Some feel it is more expensive than Prieline, but if you check the final price I think you will see that the fees and taxes are different. Doesn%26#39;t really matter the quoted price - its the final price you pay that counts.
I wouldn%26#39;t be too hung up over having to stay at the Marriott Marquis, unless you have to have this location. Many other hotels just as good or better.
I%26#39;ve used both priceline and hotwire for booking hotels on trips where I%26#39;m flexible about location. While priceline does say that all hotels rooms won will accomodate 2 people, they also state, after you have won, that if you have specific requests (i.e. bed type, non-smoking, etc.), that you should contact the property directly.
Now, they may not be able to accomodate you based on their policies, or capacity, but I%26#39;ve been able to contact the hotel and successfully get two doubles to accomodate 3 people instead of two. There is no guarantee, however.
I%26#39;m certainly not pushing priceline or hotwire....I generally research all search engines and the hotel%26#39;s own website and often find that the hotel comes close or even better than the rest. I also use my AAA card for room discounts......some are pretty good.
Priceline only sells you the standard or lowest priced room. In the USA this can be a King Room,
and a King room is often smaller than a room that has 2 doubles. In a place like NYC you might expect a King Room.
If you get a King room and they will not accomodate you - I don%26#39;t see where you have any leverage beyond asking for a roll a way bed which could cost you more.
I think this is a common problem for people in your situation and why Hotwire is often the better choice, when its more than 2 in a room.
Bottom line, if you%26#39;re SET on staying at the Marquis or you must have a certain number of beds (you didn%26#39;t say how many were in your party or if you were looking for king vs. doubles)...just take the lowest price you can find now, before all the rooms in that category fill up and the rate goes up!
If you%26#39;re willing to be flexible, you might try the blind bidding sites and see where you end up....you may discover a new hotel that you love even better!!!
