Champagne at Tiffany's - Trip report Part 2 (the proposal!)

Day 3 – Monday 30th June 2008

We kept rising early (about 5am) so we managed to pack a lot into our days. We got delicious sandwiches from the deli diagonally over the road from our – I ordered a lox and cream cheese bagel and I have never had one with so much salmon in my life. We walked to Central Park and spent the first few hours of the day exploring. I cannot speak highly enough of Central Park – it was by far our favourite place in New York and we visited it three times during our stay. We walked along the Ramble, visited Strawberry Fields, sat by Bethesda Fountain and took hundreds of photos. I am incredibly jealous of anyone who is lucky enough to live on Manhattan.

We decided to stop for lunch so we went to Turtle Pond and found a quiet spot under a willow tree, by the pond and overlooked by Belvedere Castle. It was amazing. We enjoyed our champagne picnic and I then turned to look at the scenery. When I turned back, my partner was on one knee holding out a ring to me. He proposed with the ring he bought me when we started going out together nearly 7 years ago so it has great sentimental value to us both. I just started crying (with utter happiness) and somehow managed to say yes. He then told me that the ring came with an appointment at Tiffany’s on Fifth Avenue (which made me cry even more). He had been in touch with T%26amp;Co for over six months arranging it all – he did so well to keep it a secret.

We headed back to the hotel where he arranged for me to have a manicure – so my nails were up to Tiffany’s standards lol! We took a cab to Tiffany’s but as we were still 30 minutes early for our appointment we went into Trump Tower next door and celebrated over a glass of champagne.

Tiffany’s was amazing. They brought us flutes of champagne and then brought me lots of diamonds to try. The advisor we worked with was called Abbie Schoobs and I can heartily recommend her. She was lovely, friendly and very knowledgeable. She didn’t rush us and when I said that I wanted to by my OH an engagement present she stayed with us rather than just pointing us in the right direction. She really made our special day even more wonderful.

We had a sumptuous dinner at Shula’s which is at our hotel. We were originally going to give it a miss as I’d read a number of unfavourable reviews here but we only had an hour before we were supposed to be at Pier 59 for a moonlight sail around the harbour so we went there and I’m so glad we did. The service was excellent – the concierge had told them we were in a hurry and they said “you only have 45 minute – no problem” (I think the level of service we encountered in NY was second to none). After the best steak I have had in a long time and after we’d settled the bill they brought us a huge slice of chocolate fudge cake with a chocolate leaf on top with ‘Best Wishes’ written on it in gold. It was such a generous and lovely gesture.

We really enjoyed our moonlight sail (http://www.sail-nyc.com/index.html) on the Adirondack Schooner. It was peaceful and a real highlight of the holiday and will definitely do it again when we return to NY. We headed back to Times Square and decided to stop off for a quick drink – however we kept being given drinks and bought drinks because of our engagement so we were there for hours (and the bill only came to $7!!!).

It was the most wonderful day of my life.

What a wonderful fiance to treat you so well! You will have a wonderful husband in him! I have been married almost 24 years. The funny thing in our relationship is I think I am the lucky one in this relationship while he thinks he is the lucky one. It%26#39;s worked well for our entire marriage. Best wishes for a happy engagement and a wonderful life together! Moms

awwwwwwwww!!!!!

That is SO romantic.. All the best to you both.

I wonder if I will get a special trip to Tiffanys when I go? Doubt it!!!hahahahahaaa..

Thanks for your report its beautiful.

ps wheres the pic of the ring? =)

Congratulations on your engagement, he planned it very well, and sounds like you got yourself a wonderful partner.

Congratulations and what wonderful memories of a fabulous day. He certainly pulled out all the stops in organizing this, you%26#39;re a lucky girl but I suspect you already know that.It%26#39;s lovely that you were both treated so nicely during the whole of your special day . I hope you have a long and happy life together.

This story is bringing tears to my eyes!

I think Tiffany%26#39;s is great because they always treat everyone so wonderfully. They never make anyone feel like they%26#39;re small fry or pikers or anything.

They%26#39;re very professional to everyone.

Loving this trip report...on to Part 3.

We%26#39;ve decided that we will definitely make a stop in NY during the honeymoon.

We%26#39;re already planning our next trip next September(managed to persuade my mum that she has to go but they won%26#39;t go without us - such a hard life!) so the plan is to go to see Abbie again and hopefully choose our wedding rings at T%26amp;Co.

Then after we%26#39;ve got married we%26#39;re going to fly via NY and have a few days in Manhattan but we want to get some wedding photographs taken around the city. I%26#39;ve seen a photographer recommended on here that I think we might contact as his style is exactly what I like. I love those black %26amp; white photos with all the skyscrapers.

Awwww! So lovely of you to share your experience. How romantic, its sounds just perfect. I%26#39;m sure this day will live in your memory for ever and ever with every little detail in tact. Congratulations to you both.... :)

I%26#39;m so happy for you! That%26#39;s awesome!!! Do you think you could give your fiance%26#39; my boyfriend%26#39;s phone number for some pointers?!? LOL :o)

Awwwweeee! How memorable and romantic and wonderful! Your story made me tear up a little bit! Congratulations!! I wish you may love-filled days and years to come!
