Yes I%26#39;ve stayed at the St.James Hotel twice and it suited our needs as I went knowing I was getting budget accomodation and no frills (definitely no frills!). However, the rooms are clean, the beds are reasonably comfortable and there%26#39;s plenty of hot water (although it takes a while to get through the pipes!) so that%26#39;s my main needs sorted. To add, the lifts are slow, the decor is ';tired'; and some of the views have a lot to be desired! The room we had last November (floor 11) was a LOT better than than the room we had in May (floor 2) but the other half liked the lower floor as he%26#39;s a smoker and it meant that he could easily use the stairs to go outside for a cigarette. Personally I wish now we%26#39;d asked if there was a better one available.

There are 2 good delis next door to the hotel, with the Cranberry Deli open 24 hours and the Dunhill serving good cheap breakfast and great sandwiches etc. There are also a few Irish pubs further down the street that serve food. Drinks around this area can be expensive though.

Just make sure that you go to the St.James understanding that you%26#39;re not going to get luxury but in my opinion you are getting value for money if what you want is a hotel a stone%26#39;s throw from Times Square. If you check out the review pages there are hundreds of reviews on this hotel from one extreme to another. Personally I think the overall TA rating of 3.5 is about right.
