Hello. My family and I will be visiting Manhattan in September. We%26#39;ve done many of the standard walking tours on previous visits. I%26#39;m looking for tours that are a little more unusual. I%26#39;m especially interested in behind-the-scenes tours, for example: Backstage at a Broadway show, behind-the-scenes at a Fashion House or garment company, behind-the-scenes at a museum, etc. I know there are some specialty tour companies that offer private tours, but those tours are generally out of my price range. Any help would be appreciated.
Looking for Behind-the-Scene Tours...
My mom, daughter and I have done the tour of Radio City Music Hall and enjoyed it. I%26#39;m also looking forward to doing the behind the scenes of WICKED tour that is now offered. You might want to look into that, it sounds great.
Looking for Behind-the-Scene Tours...
We did the Behind the Emerald Curtain tour on Saturday. You need to book in advance as it is very popular. The tour, which doesn%26#39;t actually take you backstage, was really worth doing and the two cast members who took it were great fun and very knowledgable. You get to sit in the auditorium and can take photos of the stage and set.
If you are going to see Wicked, I highly recommend seeing the show BEFORE doing the tour as there is a Q%26amp;A session as part of the tour which means you might be able to ask about something you saw in the show, just so long as you don%26#39;t spoil the plot for those that haven%26#39;t seen it.
Lots of info here

I forgot about this until I was just writing about it but Murray%26#39;s Cheese Shop in Greenwich Village offers a behind the scenes tour. It%26#39;s a tour of the subterranean cheese caves where you learn about cheese aging for $10 on the third Saturday of each month. As a bonus, you get to wear special booties during the tour. In my opinion, something definitely different and worth looking into!
