Highline Ballroom Location info.

I will be in New York, NY at the end of August for a show at the Highline Ballroom (431 W. 16th Street) and was wondering if I could get any info. on its location (what is it near)?

Also, are there any decent hotels near the Highline Ballroom?

Thanks much,

C in Chicago

Highline Ballroom Location info.

The Highline Ballroom is in lower Chelsea/the Meatpacking District, one block away from the Chelsea Market. It%26#39;s a very popular area for restaurants, bars, and clubs. Two nearby hotels are the Maritime Hotel and the Hotel Gansevoort.

Highline Ballroom Location info.

it%26#39;s also near the 14th St. station on the A, C, E lines - which has one of the best subway art sculpture projects in the entire city. It%26#39;s ';Life Underground'; by Tom Otterness. Don%26#39;t hesitate to walk around the entire station, upstairs and downstairs looking at all the items. Who cares if you miss a train? You%26#39;re on vacation!

Much like Chicago, there%26#39;s no need to stay in hotels directly near your focus because we have great public transit. And, to top it off, ours runs 24-7-365. It%26#39;s cheap, safe at all hours, crowded at all hours and takes you to about 75% of the entire NYC (goes to 4 out of 5 boroughs.)

here are even exits at 16th Street for even more extra convenience.

You also have the M14 bus, not to mention taxis.

Anyway, I beleive the closest hotel is the Maritime, which is quite fabulous and has a ';scene';, but can be quite $$$.

Tell us your budget and our hotel mavens can advise you. I don%26#39;t remember if you mentioned this in other posts, but how long will you be here?

Also, I%26#39;d strongly reco getting a guide book like Not For Tourists, which shows ATMs, coffee, bars, dining, plus all the subway and bus lines. (The have a Chicago edition, too. Tell me if you think it%26#39;s accurate, I%26#39;m curious.)

You can register online for free and print out all their maps for free, but I%26#39;d go ahead and buy one. I get one nearly every year and I%26#39;m a native!

Another 2 tools for finding nearby things is www.maps.google.com or www.yelp.com/nyc and select the ';find nearby...'; feature.

Now for specifics of worthwhile things nearby by:

%26#39;Snice - organic-y, granola-and-bandana coffee place with great coffee, tea, snacks and people watching.

Le Zie - great affordable Italian food.

Loehmann%26#39;s - discount designer clothing store

Red Rock West - live music place

Blue Moon Mexican - creative Mexican food.

Whatever you do, DON%26#39;T go to MaryAnn%26#39;s Mexican!!! Yikes!

Thanks for the info. Crans and queensboulevard!

Thus far, I%26#39;ve booked the Akwaaba B%26amp;B in Brooklyn for 1 nite; only one nite is available, thank goodness it%26#39;s my first nite in NY (8/25).

My budget is %26lt; $200 per nite for the remaining 2 nites. I%26#39;m on line now searching but have no idea????? My goal is to visit the MOMA, a few bead stores, the River Cafe and maybe Bloomingdales, if time permits.

Any advice on where to stay? Thanks!

Two Down, 1 to go.....

Just purchased air with AA for a great deal. My budget for air/accomodations was $1000. Looks like I%26#39;m not going to go ';slightly'; over.

Would love to stay at Hotel Gansevoort for the remaining 2 nites but the lowest price I found was $425/pn with quickbook. Would love to get it for 1/2 that price.

Any suggestions, I would greatly appreciate!

Thinking about staying in the Chelsea area.?

Hey, no offense, but if you have a tight budget, do you realize how expensive River Cafe is? Or are you following the Tim %26amp; Nina Zagat model - sleep in dirty hostels so you can eat at Maxim%26#39;s?

I%26#39;m puzzled that, with so many web resources, discount websites, Priceline and hotel webpage specials out there, you ended up at Akwaaba B%26amp;B.

With your price level, don%26#39;t rule out sharing a bathroom.

Have you looked at Chelsea Pines or Chelsea Lodge?

What about La Quinta in Sunnyside, Pan American in Elmhurst or some of the new Comfort Inns in Queens?

What about The Pod hotel? Or staying at the Westside YMCA?

Have you tried any discount websites like travelzoo.com, kayak.com, quikbook.com, betterbidding.com, etc?

I don%26#39;t even know much about hotels in NYC (since I don%26#39;t need to use them), and those are the websites and names that come up on this forum again and again.

Here%26#39;s a previous thread about The Akwaaba. Not what I would suggest for a first-timer, but that%26#39;s just me. It%26#39;s a ';real life'; working-class neighborhood, not a lot of tourist amenities or attractions in the area.

OK, I DID NOT mean to imply that the Akwaaba was a ';dirty hostel!!!!';

I said that only to illustrate how the Zagat%26#39;s financed their trips to Europe before they were famous! They%26#39;d pick very low priced accommodations so they could eat at expensive places.

Oy, please don%26#39;t flame me, people. I%26#39;m injured, remember?

We will be staying at Akwaaba B%26amp;B for 1 nite to experience ';a real life'; neighborhood, Brooklyn, and I%26#39;m looking forward to it; different strokes for different folks, for us, it%26#39;s a cultural thing!

Furthermore, we%26#39;re adventurous and don%26#39;t travel and have never traveled like tourists with map in hand.

(e.g.: I drove 2+ hours from Ochos Rios to Kingston thru the mountains of Jamaica with the Mr. in the passenger seat.)

My 1,000$ budget for air/accomodations does not include extras, (food, shopping, etc.). Thus, the cost of the River Cafe is irrelevant, will be celebrating 7 yrs of marital bliss!

';.......They%26#39;d pick very low priced accommodations so they could eat at expensive places.......';

(Never that, but, I do believe in getting the most for ';my money';.) Share a bathroom, ha!

Upon return, afterr the experience and not never the experience, I%26#39;ll provide a thorough review of Akwaaba B%26amp;B.

We will be staying at Akwaaba B%26amp;B for 1 full day/nite to experience ';a real life'; neighborhood, Brooklyn, and I%26#39;m looking forward to it; different strokes for different folks, for us, it%26#39;s a cultural thing! We will ';walk and explore the neighborhood';.
