Hi

On my visit to NY i would like to find a museum or gallary that shows old black and white pictures of people and scenes of people working in the streets of NY, PLUS working enviroments around the late 18th and early 19th centuary.I am also interested in the Irish quarters around that time. Can anyone help !!

Thanks

Nothing simpler.

Go to:

The New-York Historical Society

The Musuem of the City of New York

The New York Public Library - Room 121 (Milstein Division)

Also try contacting the American Irish Historical Society:

And check out this page from the NYPL site:

I agree..the NY Historical Society is a wealth of info(we are still members,tho%26#39; we moved eons ago;visit once a year and always find something new.Their library is wonderful). And,did someone already suggest Museum of the City of NY?and possibly the Fireman, and Police museums..I would also recommend The Merchant%26#39;s House Museum,29 East 4th St.;and the Abigail Adams Smith hotel, now called Mt.Vernon museum %26amp; Garden :421 E.61st St. If you would like to ,try the old carriage house restaurant on Barrow St,';One if by Land..';for a fine dinner in an historical spot.

hi rockdg

though not a photo archive, you may or may not be interested in visiting the Irish Hunger Memorial downtown in Battery Park City. I think it%26#39;s quite moving:

Plenty of Irish info. Here%26#39;s some reading

鈥bout.com/od/civilwar/p/irishbrigade01.htm

On that last site, there are links on the left (hard to see/read) with the names of different Irish neighborhoods.

The Tenement Museum on a Mon. might be of interest to you.
