Baseball Town Motel on Main St.

This is such a great location, but being so small and not rated by AAA or anyone I%26#39;m wondering if this place is a seedy hotel%26gt; Can anyone tell me if it%26#39;s OK for a family?

Baseball Town Motel on Main St.

having been to Cooperstown only once, I can%26#39;t really see anything in that small quiet town as being seedy.

Baseball Town Motel on Main St.

We%26#39;ve stayed at the Baseball Town Motel with our kids twice in the last decade, so clearly we thought it was a decent enough place. You sure can%26#39;t beat the location!

The answer to whether it%26#39;s ';seedy'; or not depends on your definition of seedy, I suppose.

While we like it, this place is not for everyone. The rooms we%26#39;ve stayed in (a total of five) were all very dark, quite threadbare and furnished with what I%26#39;d guess to be %26#39;60s vintage furniture.

There are few luxuries (no pool, no phones, no hair dryers or irons for example). However there is AC and cable TV.

Our rooms were acceptably clean to us, although there seemed to be a lingering tobacco smoke odor even in non-smoking rooms. Maybe this was because of old carpeting.

However, we find this all charming in its own quirky way. The proprietors are friendly and also run the old-fashioned mom-and-pop souvenir store below the motel.

If you%26#39;re in town mainly for the museum and the sights, and don%26#39;t plan to spend much time holed up in your room, this can be good place.

If however you have children who need distractions like a pool or play space; or, if you%26#39;re very fastidious and fussy, you might be better off in one of the chain motels.

For families with small children who have to lug strollers etc., I should add to my review that as far as I know, there%26#39;s no elevator at the Baseball Town Motel. (Or if there is, I didn%26#39;t see it. The access to all of our rooms, on both visits, was from a staircase at the back.) You may want to call ahead and ask about that first.

Okay, here is the scoop on the Baseball Town Motel.

First, the pictures you see are not the rooms I ended up in. My room (#3) was about 8x13. Cost: $132.00 (inclusive of tax) for one evening.

Location: Great. Unfortunately, I was embarrassed to walk out the front door and only entered/exited by the rear. Somone raised the issue of the motel being ';seedy';. I pulled into the lot and immediately saw 8 motorcycles. You can make your own conclusions.

Rooms: Pathetic. If you are over 6%26#39; tall you won%26#39;t be able to sit on the toilet - I%26#39;m not kidding. I%26#39;m 5%26#39;10'; and could barely get my butt on the toilet and not hit the wall with my knees.

There is no phone or clock radio in the room. How much does a clock radio cost? There is a sign, I found later, that has an emergency number to call if you need help. It is posted on the front door - which I did not use.

Bedding was old. Small TV on a broken stand. One plastic chair to sit on in the room - the kind you bring to the beach.

Bathroom - old soap in the shower on arrival. Hair all over the place - but mosly on the walls.

Smoke detector. It was circa 1980. It had no LED to indicate proper function. It was dirty looking. How much would a new CO/Smoke detector cost this place? $50?

Water pipes: You hear every flush of the toilet and running of the shower. This was very problematic when the ';bikers'; returned at 2 AM with loss of the volume control of their voices.

My review: Skip this place. Pay the extra and get some lodgings in a nice hotel.

Oh, lastly, is parking. You have to enter the parking lot in between two buidlings on a side street. There is no signage to this effect. You cannot check in too early. The afternoon I checked in I was told my car had to be out of the lot by 11AM. I got up early and moved to the municipal lot. So, if parking was a factor in your choice of this motel - DON';T DO IT!

This place could use a big overhaul. I would bet one weeks income on each room would make huge improvements. $800 and they could bring each room way up in quality and make the $132.00 I spent worth it. New paint, new furniture, a clock radio and smoke detector.

NOT OKAY FOR THE FAMILY!

We just got back from 3 nights at the Baseball Town Motel with our 2 children (ages 5 and 7) and I agree with parts of each of the opinions listed. The location is a definite plus. I LOVED leaving my car parked and walking around town and to the Farmers Museum. We had no trouble with the parking lot or our room. Yes, everything was very old and I did wonder why they didn%26#39;t do some updating. One of the beds was very uncomfortable (it had a definite slope from top to bottom) but the kids didn%26#39;t seem to mind. It was very dark and dingy looking and quite small. New carpet, bedding, curtains and a coat of paint (and yes, a clock!) would be cheap and would make a world of difference.

On the other hand, our room (#8, in the back) was clean and the bedding and towels were clean. I think you need to decide what you want...there are definintely nicer accomodations but most are a distance from downtown and you%26#39;d have to drive and park in the trolley lot and take the trolley to town. If you want to stay in town, the options are limited.

I think people are funny. For only 132.00 with off street parking located in the heart of the Village people expect to stay at a 5 star hotel.

Remember its called a MOTEL for a reason. A quick clean place to sleep. And check out time across America is at 11 a.m. If they let you keep your car there after 11a.m and it was damaged who would be the first person you would complain to? The Motel owner, so i can see why people dont do the little extras for free because people would be running to the court houses for every little scratch. Another words why do you expect all the extras for free after you paid for one night. Does Mcdonalds give more than 1 burger with fries.

I dont think people who own motorcycles are seedy. Have you ever priced one they cost more than most peoples cars. I do however think the graphic detail about using the bathroom was seedy.

Remember that there are no chain stores in the village, the stores are all mom and pop shops. The problem is that people have spent to much time in cookie cutter food chains and hotels.

You could always look at the Otesaga hotel but Im sure its out of the Motel mentalitys budget. They have motor cycles at the Otesaga also.

We just got back from Cooperstown and the location for this place is right smack in the middle of town. I would probably think twice before staying here. My husband thought the sign was a joke. Seedy is a good word to describe the outside although I never went inside!!!There has to be someplace other than here to stay with families that is reasonably priced.

I stay there periodically, and I am bringing my kids there this week. The room is pretty small, but fine for a night or two. The location could not be any better.

Two of my friends %26amp; I just came back from Cooperstown and had a wonderful time. We stayed two nights at the Baseball Town Motel. We had rooms 1 %26amp; 2 which has an adjoining door. If you are expecting the Embassy Suites then this is not the motel for you. If you just want a place to sleep while visiting the Baseball Hall of Fame this place was perfect for us. Yes the rooms are small. They have a double bed and a single bed in the room Yes it does look like it%26#39;s old. BUT....it is clean, doesn%26#39;t smell and is so convenient to the Hall of Fame we loved it. The bathroom was clean but had the smallest toilet I have ever seen and it didn%26#39;t flush so good either. Small bathtub with shower that worked just fine. Plenty of hot water and even though we had adjoining rooms I didn%26#39;t hear when they were taking their showers. The one thing we particularly liked was the free parking in the back. You do have to enter through 2 other buildings on the side street but once parked everything else is in walking distance. Cooperstown must make a lot of money on parking tickets too. There aren%26#39;t any meters and street parking is 2 hour maximum. From very early morning there was a policeman out writing tickets so that free motel parking became even more important that we first imagined. Nothing there is very expensive either. The restaurants aren%26#39;t gouging prices like most places do anymore. The people are nice %26amp; friendly so all in all our trip was very satisfactory including the motel
