Midtown East apartment renters beware!!!!!!!!!!

I rented an apartment on 34th and 1st 2 weeks ago.My mistake was to trust that the renter on craigslist was being truthful about her apartment. What she discribed and what was real was a big, i mean hugh difference.I put in the search bar under manhatten--midtown east and found this place. What the heading said was Luxurious accomodations.Well let me tell you,the smell of musty, smokey dirty air was overwhelming. Her dog went in our room and urinated on the floor, luckily he did not hit anything but a plastic bag. Also we found poop on the floor where you walk out to a very small deck that had a dirty table and rug where we were supposed to ';enjoy your breakfast and drinks';I dont know about you but my sister and i were considering sleeping on a bench in central Park sice she would not refund for the next night. If anyone needs more info please post a note.I really hate for someone looking forward to a wonderful trip to New york to go through what we did. Thanks for letting me vent

Midtown East apartment renters beware!!!!!!!!!!

Did you rent the whole apartment, or just a bedroom?

If it was the whole apartment, you were probably (indeed, almost certainly) breaking the law, and if that is the case, then you got pretty much what you deserved.

Thread after thread after thread, people are warned ';don%26#39;t rent apartments in NYC; it%26#39;s not legal, and you may be scammed'; -- but do they listen????? Nope; everyone wants something for nothing -- or at least, less than the honest market price -- and this is what you get.

Thank you for your response.Well i%26#39;ve learned something today.I did not know it was illegal to rent apartments in ny.She did offer just rooms inside her apartment, but then she offered the whole place. The lobby was very nice {rivergate}but anyway we made the best of it.thanks again for the info.

To those who read this forum %26amp; are planning a trip to NYC, please use the search feature for apartment rentals %26amp; do your homework. There are more than a few posts about apartment rentals being illegal in NYC.

icecreamqueen, sorry this happened to you, but thanks for the info.

I%26#39;m going to add your story to the collection.

I hope you come back soon anyway. Did you enjoy the rest of your trip?

Thank-you Queensboulevard for your input and help. This was a gift to our parents for christmas last year ,for them to spend 3 days in New york with all 7 of their children, plus wifes and husbands. We went to shea as we did growing up in the 60%26#39;s when we lived on Long Island. It brought back so many fond memories spending time with our father at Shea.My parents and everyone of us had a fantastic time.My sister and her husband and i and mine made the best of the situation involving the apartment. We have had alot of laughs since then about it,since their was alot more to the story then what i told previously. What is really funny is that my parents and 2 brothers were staying at the Warldorf!!!!Anyway, to answer your question i cannot wait to come back to your wonderful city.I cannot tell you enough how fantastic everyone we met was.We were stopped on the street by a local man who wanted to know if we needed directions.Wait staff, vendors, etc everyone was so friendly.I LOVE NEW YORK.
