Hi
I have travelled to NYC many times and usually stay at the Hilton Times Square. Prices now for the dates I wish to travel are $USD529 a night. I know that NYC is expensive but I have started to think that if I am going to spend that on a 4 star hotel I might as well spend more and get something special. Any recommendations. I was looking at the Mercer but any other suggestions would be appreciated.
Regards
Ann

What are your dates? During certain times of the year, hotels in NYC can be expensive, for example, around Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year%26#39;s Eve. BTW, The Hilton Times Square is a 3-diamond property. If you want a Hilton that is a 4-diamond property, consider staying at the Millenium on Church Street across from the WTC sight. If you stayed at The Millenium, you will notice the difference between it and The Hilton Times Square when it comes to amenities. Incidentally, I%26#39;ve stayed at both places.

I agree Ann. For that price you can find many other options. What kind of place would you like? The Mercer is in Soho (downtown) and very nice. If you%26#39;d rather be in midtown, have a look at the London hotel.
Why not use priceline and stay at a 4 star for less money and probably get the hilton or the sheraton in midtown.
Thanks for all your replies.
Unfortunately the last time I looked as i%26#39;m Australian I cannot access Priceline (although I wish I could!)
It seems that most hotels in NYC are up to that $500 mark then jump to $1000 for the top hotels.
I suppose I wanted something in either Midtown or Soho/Meatpacking area that was between the two extremes. (October 10-15)
My sister and I are not into ultra snooty places but don%26#39;t mind paying for something nice. If this were anywhere else in the world I would be happy to spend top dollar. But when you have the most wonderful city in the world outside your doorstep it seems silly to spend too much. In saying that at $500+ for the Hilton it makes sense to go to the next step.
I appreciate all your replies

Just got back from NYC, stayed in the Empire which, a couple of issues with reception aside, was very nice.
Only $300 a night for a large junior suite that overlooked Broadway.
It%26#39;s a ten minute walk from fifth avenue and just a couple of mins from Columbus Circle.
As you said, we hardly saw the room, so spending mega-bucks didn%26#39;t make sense.
