Hi,
i%26#39;ve found a good deal with this site http://www.samsapartments.com/ for an apartment in august, but i cannot find reviews on the net, does anybody know the housekeepers, or has any experience with them?

Sam's Apartments NYC
Did you end up renting from this company? I was exploring renting an apartment as well since there are seven of us traveling. Now thinking this sounds risky.
Hi,
no i didn%26#39;t... i got only one reply about the company from another forum, i%26#39;m pasting it here:
----------------------------------------
We did stay. It was not nearly as nice as they implied on their website, nor was it as clean, but we did meet Sam himself and he was very nice, very accommodating and bent over backwards to ease our discomfort. The building was safe, the apartment was quiet (we had family ranging in age from 8 to 80).
If I stayed again, I would consider using Sam%26#39;s Apartments again, but I would know to ask a lot more questions up front, such as:
1. Does the unit have central air (we had one room air conditioner for the whole place; it was cool, but my husband and I slept in that room and froze to death because it was on the whole time, on high).
2. Is there an elevator, and if not, how many steps up (NOT flights, but steps; we were one flight up, but that flight was probably 25 steps).
3. Describe the street the unit is on; what are the other buildings (businesses or other apartments).
4. Describe the other tenants (we were right next to a Tarot Card reader. . .she was very nice, but it was a surprise when we pulled up to our apartment and saw this sign on the door).
----------------------------------------------
Thanks for your reply. I think I%26#39;m going to bag the whole idea. We previously rented an apartment in London and was a great experience so I had the idea to do the same in NYC but sounds like a different ballgame. Oh well!
Even for someone renting an illegal apartment, the poster from the other forum sounds especially bratty. Very few apartments in NYC have central air, the majority of illegal apartments are in older tenement (no elevators) buildings, and I%26#39;m sure that tarot card reader was less than thrilled that her next-door-neighbors consist of a revolving door of random tourists.
Hi
Just returned from NYC having stayed 5 nights in Sam%26#39;s Apt 31/aug-5/aug/08. Apt much better than hotel rooms, more space etc. Roll away bed is mattress kept in the wardrobe. Location was very good and warm friendly doormen. Sam did however claimed to be storing an ex tenants clothes for him in the apt we stayed in. These clothes were hanging up in the wardrobe and in the hall cupboard there was also a large suit case full of clothes and the top rack of the wardrobe was full of jeans, shoes etc. This left little room to hang our own clothes, Sam finally agreed to take them with him until this tenant returned for them.
Would recommend Sam%26#39;s Apt for a party of 2 or more
Uh, I don%26#39;t think that Sam has garnered enough trust from his tenants to be storing anything for them. Judging by past tales, it%26#39;s more likely he changed the locks on the rightful tenant of that apartment you were illegally subletting.
You committed a crime, Sam committed a crime and for you to recommend others do so is especially galling
To the many people who come to NYC after reading about these ILLEGAL APARTMENT RENTALS, If you know that they are illegal %26amp; still choose to rent them, why not stay home, we don%26#39;t want you here. THIS IS ILLEGAL ACTIVITY, do it in YOUR HOMETOWN, NOT OURS!!!!!
