For sightseeing near Albany, Saratoga National Battlefield is less than an hour away. http://www.nps.gov/sara/
The Battle of Saratoga is considered to be the turning point of the American Revolution. In the Autumn of 1777, American General Horatio Gates defeated British General “Gentleman” John Burgoyne in a series of engagements near Saratoga, culminating at Freeman’s Farm (September) and Bemis Heights (October). The talented British General Simon Fraser was mortally wounded at Bemis Heights.
The American victory proved that the Continental army was an effective fighting force capable of defeating the British in a major land engagement. As a result of this battle, France offered its financial and military support to America.
Saratoga is a “must see” for anyone interested in the American Revolution.
For fine dining in Albany, my favorites are “CafĂ© Capriccio” (very good Italian cuisine), “Nicole%26#39;s Bistro” (very good light French cuisine) and “Angelo’s 677 Prime” (an upscale steakhouse with an amazing wine list). The bar at Justin%26#39;s is a great place to get a drink.

I suggest Yono%26#39;s for your only meal in the Capital District. Yono is a former culinery chef of the year and been featured a few times on the %26#39;Today Show%26#39;: www.yonosrestaurant.com
Order the %26#39;ristaffel%26#39;. This is a unique restaurant in the Capital District. Very reasonably priced (downright cheap compared to the competition).
