Things different this year?

My family and I will be returning to Lake George again this year for our vacation and were wondering if anyone can tell us if the slowing economy has impacted crowds or services this year? Shorter lines at theme parks? Higher/lower prices at restaurants/motels/attractions? Fewer amenities? More vacancies at local motels? TIA

Things different this year?

There are a few things I have noticed this year at the Lake. Even though things were crowded over the 4th of July, there didn%26#39;t seem to be as much boat activity as in past years.

Also, I%26#39;ve been to Six Flags/Great Escape four times this year and they have not checked our bags once. In past years they would not allow us to bring food in. Although it%26#39;s still prohibited, they said they are trying to make things easier on families.

Also, the gas prices at Pilot Knob Marina were $4.89 last weekend, which seemed relatively decent for marina prices.

I don%26#39;t know about restaurant or hotel prices, though, so I can%26#39;t help you there.

The highways were packed and the village still seemed to be bustling. HTH.

Things different this year?

We just went to Great Escape this past week (Tues 8/5/08). We had two families and 5 kids, ages 2.5 - 6 yrs. Park was fairly full, but ride lines - for the kiddie rides - were almost non-existant.

Water park was a bit more congested, but still not bad. MAJOR PLUS: Although their official policy is no bringing in any of your own food, they do not even take a peek in your bags/backpacks - unlike Hershey Park, PA, where they make you open your bag and dig down inside of it trying to find food/beverage. Was nice to be able to bring some snacks and small beverages with us, instead of paying the usual rip-off amusement park prices (and Great Escape is no exception to the ';Gouge the hungry'; doctrine).
