Clean safe hotel near Chinatown for less than $200

My family needs to be in Chinatown from 8/14-8/17 for a funeral, and the hotel prices are really high even for a 1* or 2*. Does anyone have any recommendations for a decent hotel that is less than $200?

Or is it more worth it to live further away and rent a car? I%26#39;m thinking it will be better to live in Chinatown, since they will spend most (if not all) their time there.

There%26#39;s a Holiday Inn there, and a place called Sohotel that is sort of a youth hostel - not sure how nice it is - for all I know they only have dorm rooms with multiple beds. You can probably find reviews here. NYWhiz may also have other suggestions.

If there is any sort of online network set up for the Chinese community - and I%26#39;m sure there is - you may be able to find out about low cost options we wouldnt know about. Like things run by family associations? Another option is the hotels on the 7 line in Queens - maybe there is something in Flushing - our other Chinatown?

If I am not mistaken, there is a new hotel called Hotel 91 in Chinatown which looks not that bad. I sympathize with you trying to get a hotel for not too much because in August this seems to be pretty hard.

You could also look in the financial district because you sometimes get specials for weekends.

You could also try looking on Hotwire.

Thank you so much Cricri7. I originally had reserved SoHotel, but was really skeptical about it for cleanliness and stuff. But I just called Hotel 91 and got a room. And since they are so new. it seems to look very nice. And the reviews are good too. The only consistent drawback I saw from reviewers are that the smelliness of the Chinatown vendors. But since I want to be in Chinatown, that won%26#39;t bother me at all.

One thing to note- you should absolutely not rent a car here, nor should you expect to get around by car. If you%26#39;re spending most of you time in Chinatown, you%26#39;ll probably be walking, but it%26#39;s a good idea to familiarize yourself with the subway system a bit before you get here.

Did you get a good price LucyKong?

I got it for $179 per night. =) That%26#39;s the best I%26#39;ve seen for that area for a decent hotel.

I offer you my sympathies for this sad occasion.

I hope that your stay at this hotel will be pleasant because the occasion you are going to New York for is not a pleasant one so I hope you won%26#39;t have any problems. If you have the time when you come back, you should come back and post a review of the hotel.

Thanks Cricri7. I won%26#39;t be there, so I won%26#39;t be able to give a review.. I am booking this for my Dad, so I hope this works out ok for him.
