I love NYC, but haven%26#39;t been there since having a baby and haven%26#39;t ever been to Yankees stadium. Not to knock the Bronx but I%26#39;m a little leery.
But, we have tickets for a final season game, a Sept. Friday night and we%26#39;re venturing in--baby in tow --for the weekend.
I was going to stay at the Marriott East Side, but it%26#39;s so expensive, and I wasn%26#39;t sure what to do with the car (we%26#39;re coming in from Albany). Then we were looking at a Marriott in Teaneck, which appears to have free parking and easy access to the bus. Can anyone give any suggestions as to which is better with regard to safety and ease of travel with an infant? Assuming the night game ends around 11pm or so, are we going to be in trouble leaving Yankee Stadium via public transportation?
Thanks!
Getting to A Friday Night Yankees Game--and backHow old%26#39;s the infant, and are you sure you want to be taking him/her to a basefall game? Once you%26#39;ve addressed that issue, I would drive to the game. The hassle with parking is negligble to the hassle of traveling around the city with an infant (again, depending upon the age), and since you are driving down anyway . . .
I would drive to the game - get there nice and early to get a good parking spot (read the posts about where to park and not park to get out early, etc. - if you need to leave the game early, you are not trapped, and also where to park to miss some traffic if you leave at the end)
As for a hotel, it depends what you want to do the next day - if you are just looking to crash and then head back early (and not see the City, etc), why not stay somewhere in N. Jersey on the way back to 87? (Mahwah, etc.). Assuming you are not stuck in horrible traffic, you can be there in 35-40 minutes.
If you want to stay and play the following day in the City, I will let others help you with that.
good luck

Getting to A Friday Night Yankees Game--and back';I love NYC, but haven%26#39;t been there since having a baby and haven%26#39;t ever been to Yankees stadium. Not to knock the Bronx but I%26#39;m a little leery.';
Well, you just did knock the Bronx. Unless you%26#39;re somehow different than the millions of others who visit Yankee Stadium every year, I imagine you would be just fine.
As for being in ';trouble'; leaving the stadium via public transportation, again, unless you%26#39;re unlike millions of other people, why would it be a problem?
The subway is the best way to get to/from a Yankee game. There are 3 lines that go, the B or D on the west side and the 4 on the east side. I would not stay in New Jersey (esp. Teaneck) to go to the game, nor would I attempt to drive to the stadium. I agree, I%26#39;d rethink taking the baby though. There are umpteen hotels to chose from besides the 2 you mention. If it has to be a Marriott, the Courtyard Midtown East is good and usually affordable and near the #4 train. Depending on the age of the baby though, I%26#39;d consider going to a suite hotel in a 1 bedroom suite with kitchen. Affinia 50 is near that Courtyard and has 1 bedroom suites. With an ';infant'; I wouldn%26#39;t wait til the end of the game. I%26#39;d leave a bit early to avoid the big crowds in the subway. That%26#39;s your only problem.
Okay, let me clarify.
The baby is 18months, I guess toddler would be a more appropriate description. Bedtime is 7:30pm and is accostomed to a lot of noise (train noise) at home, so game won%26#39;t be a problem as far as sleeping on my lap goes.
We want to visit some favorite haunts on Saturday, so being a short subway ride from TImes Square is preferable, but having the car is something we%26#39;ve grown accostomed to.
I worry about traffic to the stadium for a 7:05 start time, but I have a preferred parking pass, so parking would be fine...it%26#39;s the driving I%26#39;m worried about!
As for the %26#39;knock%26#39; against the Bronx, I am cautious about travelling at night in the city, period. Moreso with an infant and moreso outside of Manhattan. If that%26#39;s totally unfounded, then my apologies to your sensibilities.
I prefer Marriott only because I%26#39;m close to the next points level, but it sounds like it%26#39;d have to be a Marriott in Manhattan rather than on the outskirts, so can anyone recommend the best place to catch a train (coming into the city from the Albany area) that will bring me to the Times Square area in under an hour on a Friday?
How long is the subway ride from TS to yankee on a Friday evening? I imagine it%26#39;s a bear...Thanks!
I still don%26#39;t understand why you%26#39;re insisting on staying outside the city. It just makes getting to the game (and back to the hotel) that much more complicated on a Fri. night. Do you really want to be schlepping back to Manhattan and THEN out to New Jersey? Most of the Marriotts in Manhattan are good. Ironically, the only one that I don%26#39;t think is very good is the Marriott East Side. Read the reviews. What about the Residence Times Square (which is not really in TS)?
The ride from Yankee Stadium to Times Square takes about half an hour- far less of a bear than driving a car around in NYC.
I agree - we went to a game via the subway and it was fine. There were loads of families and kids enjoying the atmosphere. I never felt once that there was any danger in going to the game and back. We stayed until almost the end of the game and had no problem getting the subway back.
Thanks!
We took your advice on the Renaissance. Will likely park at one of the rail stations and ride in, then take the subway to-from the game.
Many thanks again to everyone!
I%26#39;m confused here- NYC doesn%26#39;t have any sort of parking at subway stations.
I think everyone%26#39;s confused. ;%26#39;)
There was no mention of the Renaissance (I said the Residence Inn) but if you mean the Renaissance in Manhattan, it%26#39;s a fine choice. We don%26#39;t know where you%26#39;re driving from, but you certainly can find parking at a train station. That said, if you%26#39;ve got a lot of baby gear, driving in and parking at an

garage may be more convenient. Hope you have a fun easy trip.
