I am from Ohio and as a dying promise to my father, a lifelong Yankee fan, I am taking him to a game there. What are my best options? He cannot walk very far and we dont have a ton of money.
Handicapped father wants to go to Yankee game
Im not sure what you are asking.
If you are asking whether Yankee Stadium is wheelchair iaccessible, it is. You can read abou it here:
鈥lb.com/nyy/ballpark/accessibility.jsp
If you are asking if the subway is wheelchair accessible, some stations are and others are not. At Yankee Stadium the underground station of the D train is accessible and heas an elevator, but the elevated station of the #4 is not wheelchair accessible. You would therefore take the D train.
Since your father cannot walk far, you were planning on using a wheelchair, weren%26#39;t you?

I am wondering where to stay and the best way to get to the stadium
I just told you how to get to the stadium.
Stay in Manhattan at a hotel that fits your budget. If you tell us when you%26#39;re planning on coming and what your budget is, maybe we can help. quikbookc.om and kayak.com are the websites I like for ';shopping'; hotels. If you%26#39;re planning on renting a wheelchair while in NYC, there are places that do that.
PS, since GWB says the D train is handicap accessible, you want to stay on the west or upper west side.
bigapplegreeter.org.
has accessible information.
The 34th st. station is handicap accessible. The Hotel Metro, the Affinia Manhattan, the Red Roof would all be good options.

I have to disagree here- the 4 is just as accessible as the D. Anyone can get off on the 4 platform at 161st and take the elevator to the street level. I see it every day and have used it myself in unfortunate circumstances. The D elevator is actually more of a pain.
I will take your word for it, Alice -- the Bronx is the one borough where I never worked. I was going by the map, which does not show the little wheelchair symbol next to 161 Street on the 4.
Of course, the original poster can find all he needs to know about subway elevators out for himself if he goes to the link I gave him...
I want to say again, not sure what%26#39;s in your mind in terms of staying outside Manhattan. If it%26#39;s to save money, I understand, but if you think it will be easier for your Dad to get around, that%26#39;s not true. I think staying in Manhattan is easiest/simplest.
