we visited a fantastic wine tasting place in fort lauderdale called ';the grape'; (www.yourgrape.com/aboutus/aboutus_index.htm) which served wine by the glass or bottle (or flights of wines with a printed description)...plus paired appetisers...just wondering if there%26#39;s anywhere like this in nyc?
wine tasting...lots of them. they%26#39;re pretty regionalized (Italian wines, Spanish wines, Champagnes) so give us some guidance and we can list a few
wine tasting...I%26#39;m sure there are hundreds of places like this in NYC. One that comes to mind is enoteca/ i trulli on, I believe, e. 27th between Park Avenue South and Lexington...as you can imagine they specialize in Italian wines.
Vintage New York is a wine store on Wooster/Broome in SoHo w/a bar in the back that offers flights; you can also go around the corner to their restaurant for drinks, appetizers, meals. They serve New York State wines exclusively.
Probably a bit out of your way, but another option is to go out to Long Island to the various wineries and do a wine tasting tour. Not quite as much cache as the California wineries but not too bad either.
While we%26#39;re waiting for more feedback, here%26#39;s a recent thread (w/links) about wine bars:

you lot are just the dogs *******!!!
i knew nyc would come up trumps, even if we were slightly disappointed to discover franchising of the grape hasnt ventured that far!
what do we like....
well....i love the fizzy stuff and red (i%26#39;m a argentinian malbec kind of girl)
my partner (aside from drinking anything you put in front of him) is a red man (same taste as me) and the odd very chilled light white, no fizzy stuff for him
my friend likes sparkling, nothing too dry or rose
her partner....again, whatever is put infront of him!!
am liking the look of flute, definately going on the list, the flights sold it.
enoteca looks good, not sure i%26#39;m a big italian wine fan though
somewhere which sells all nationalities maybe?...
are there many wineries in long island? any recommendations on tours?
The Monday Room, mentioned in the link I posted above, has custom wine flights you can mix w/appetizers (and is a cool, clubby space):

Vintage Wine Bar has a variety of wine flights across regions:

Something else that might be fun is a cheese-and-wine tasting seminar at Artisanal:

there%26#39;s also that place right next to Flute (downtown) that has flights. cant think of the name though.
Bar Jamon on 16th (or is it 17th?) around the corner from Casa Mono - great Spanish wines and tapas
those Veloce places all over the city for Italian wines (havent been but my hairstylist says the one on 7th at 20th-21st is good and the sandwiches are great)
Cento Vino on Houston
Landmarc has 100s of wines and a few Champagne split options if you%26#39;re the only one who wants to drink it
BB27--This is a bit off topic, but the best place to get malbec in in Buenos Aires, where it flows like water, is very inexpensive (like everything else)--even for Americans
i best get me on the next flight to buenos aires then!! :)
monday room - looks fab, not loving the menu but the wine list sounds good!
vintage new york - definately on the list!!
artisnal - had this place on the list anyway (being a lover of cheese too) friends arent great cheesey people though so i%26#39;m pushed to get them along to a class...mind you if the fondue class was on whilst we were there i%26#39;d have gone alone!!
